TO MY DEAREST SONS!

A winter day in Hanoi but my heart is so filled and warm.

Teacher Vuong’s message from the zalo group made me rub my eyes and read it over and over again, then blurred with tears. I trembled and texted back: “Is it true, teacher?”. “Yes, that’s right, this is official information from the Organizing Committee – Mr. Ty’s team “AE nhà khỉ” has reached the Top 5 Vietnamese teams participating in the Robotics competition in the US!”.

All the feelings of waiting and suspense for so long inside me burst out. I guess my dear son is probably jumping up and down in class for joy now. I am myself deep in all memories, sadness and happiness…

By the fall of 2019, mom and dad decided to relocate our family to Ecopark and you changed school too. Your new school named Edison Schools – a red brick school where many soft skills which you always wanted to learn are integrated in the curriculum. I remember both of you have been fascinated with Lego pieces and robots since childhood. On the school tour day, seeing you two stayed in the Robotics room for such a long time with a strong desire inspired us to make a big decision, to register you for the entrance exam and turned our family life to the new page.

In the first friendlies, “AE nhà khỉ” of Ty’s team and Teo’s “Mejor Grupoo” both won the most important awards, in which “AE nhà khỉ” won the highest award – Excellence Award. The second season is the official tournament, 20 most excellent teams were picked up to represent Vietnam to attend the Final Round in the US. Teo and his friends formed the SVT84 team and competed successfully, winning the Design Award and winning a spot to go to the US. As for Ty, even though the “AE nhà khỉ” team was always the “king of the training ground”, it made a lot of mistakes on the battles and only ranked 27th. All your efforts were wiped out…So, along with Teo’s joy, the whole family faced Ty’s disappointment. However, with the encouragement of my family and teachers, Ty gradually participated in more activities such as learning the piano, and playing sports to be stronger in health and ready for the new season. In the 2023-2024 official season, you were still the core of the team, however Teo’s SVT84 changed all members, and “AE nhà khỉ” remained two core members, Ty and Phuc Nguyen. From the start of season, stories about robots, new structures, and about videos from famous centers around the world made the dinner time of the brothers so interesting. Teo was the team leader, managing all 6th grader with such amazing and clear duties allocation. Ty was not strong in leadership, but he kept working hard for the ultimate goals and dreams “Tickets to America”. Ty stayed late at school for many days to discuss with the teacher more about the new structure while his little brother Teo was home. Friendlies matches also made the boys more confident.Eventually, the efforts of Ty, Phuc Nguyen and the “AE nhà khỉ” were rewarded. It was probably the happiest day in your life when you received tickets to America! At the age of 15 – the most beautiful age of teenager, you are deserved to receive such a great reward for almost 3 years of unlimited efforts. Mom and dad, teachers, Teo and everyone in Edison’s Robotics team were happy for you and for the team “AE nhà khỉ”. You will enter a new age with a completely different mindset.A happy and priceless reward for my two sons as well as our family.Mom and Dad will always love you, Ty – Teo!Hanoi – a memorable dayYour mom,

Over the past nearly two years of study at the school, my child has always had a positive mood every day after school, always wanting to share with parents about all activities at school and in class. My child has stepped out of their comfort zone, becoming confident in front of crowds, daring to try things they wanted to do before but didn’t believe they could. They have also been brave in expressing and sharing personal views, daring to say NO to things they truly don’t want without affecting the common good.

I believe that this has been possible thanks to the encouragement, motivation, and support from the teachers. The teachers at Edison are very dedicated, friendly, and respect the individuality of students; they inspire the children not only in their studies but also in extracurricular activities and in developing soft skills.

Furthermore, at Edison, the students enjoy a creative education program that encourages the development and discovery of each individual’s abilities while still adhering to the standard knowledge framework of the Ministry of Education and Training, so choosing between traditional public universities in Vietnam or international universities after graduating from high school is not too difficult for them.

Therefore, both the family and the child are very happy that we have chosen the right learning environment by going to Edison.

Choosing a school that aligns with the family’s criteria and suits the child’s abilities is a concern for many parents. My family has three children: the eldest in 8th grade in the Bilingual program; the second in 3rd grade in the Standard program at Edison, and the youngest, born in 2018, preparing for 1st grade. I chose Edison for my children, hoping they would find an educational environment where they could fully express their abilities and talents and grasp knowledge through innovative, attractive teaching methods. Instead of focusing on high-pressure competitions in subjects like Math and Literature, the school organizes creative contests such as Robotics, Painting, English Presentation, Environmental Protection, etc. These contests are highly practical, teaching the children a lot about life skills, creativity, and responsibility towards their surroundings.

Moreover, the school hosts many events throughout the year, such as Halloween and Christmas, giving the children memorable moments with friends, parents, and teachers. More importantly, for my children, every school day is joyful and always something to look forward to. Besides, the children have become independent, self-reliant, compliant, and well-behaved.

On behalf of my family, I would also like to express my gratitude to the homeroom teachers of my two children. They are wonderful, like psychological experts, always caring, close, and exchanging daily information about the children with the family.

I wish Edison Schools continued success and hope all teachers will always discover new teaching methods so that students have an effective and practical learning environment. Thereby, students can confidently become global citizens.

When my son shared his experience of winning an English-speaking contest and being the sole representative of the class honored in front of the whole school, I was pleasantly surprised. The contest required students to speak on a given topic for 1-3 minutes every day for 30 consecutive days. Supporting him in making daily recordings, I witnessed his transformative journey. Each day, his English-speaking skills showed improvement over the previous day. The 30 days did not magically make my son fluent in English, but like a diary, he spoke with emotional sincerity, narrating simple things like his favorite food or the places he had been with heartfelt emotion. During this challenge, he even considered giving up. In the final video, I was deeply moved when he summarized the journey, covering 30 story topics. Beyond just an English-speaking contest, he learned valuable lessons in perseverance, resilience, and the effort to overcome challenges, commitment to goals, and task completion. He isn’t the best English student in the class. Initially, as a shy student, a small certificate from this contest boosted his motivation across subjects, not just English.

There are many stories I have experienced with my two children (my son in 7th grade and my daughter in 2nd grade). Not only in English, but all subjects at Edison are built within an incredibly creative and progressive academic ecosystem that follows global education trends. The curriculum encourages students to immerse themselves, understand, and master knowledge naturally and creatively, rather than just through rote learning. I am always amazed at the Edison teachers for their assignment methods and synthesis of knowledge. Their dedication shows careful attention, passion, and constant innovation to optimize effectiveness. Assignments integrate knowledge with life, aiming not only at decoding skills of knowledge but also at sowing life perspectives and cultural foundations. What I appreciate about the Edison environment is that every child, with their different intellectual abilities, always has space and opportunities to shine with their own strengths. Edison School develops students’ skills; builds their ability to grasp; enhances their capabilities; guides them in respecting diversity, and accepting differences.
